Dr. Sana Akbar is a board-certified physician specializing in Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism, and Internal Medicine. Her passion for medicine was inspired by her father, whose dedication to providing exceptional patient care influenced her decision to pursue a career in medicine and, ultimately, endocrinology and diabetes care.
Dr. Akbar graduated from the prestigious King Edward Medical University in Pakistan, where she was a Presidential Scholarship recipient. After relocating to the United States, she completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee and advanced her training with a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Since completing her fellowship, Dr. Akbar has practiced endocrinology in the DMV area, working closely with physicians at Washington Hospital Center and the National Institutes of Health. She recently joined District Endocrine, a practice dedicated to managing metabolic and hormonal disorders. At District Endocrine, Dr. Akbar helps patients achieve their health goals through a comprehensive approach, personalized education, and the latest advancements in endocrine care tailored to individual lifestyles.
Dr. Akbar’s clinical expertise includes thyroid and pituitary diseases, metabolic disorders, diabetes, and pregnancy-related endocrine complications. She finds the most rewarding aspects of her work to be the meaningful relationships she builds with her patients and colleagues and her commitment to delivering the highest standard of care.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Akbar enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. She is particularly fond of participating in sports and outdoor activities with her daughters, finding joy and balance in these moments.
