Obesity and Weight Loss

Why is it essential to control weight obesity?

Weight management is an essential part of health. If somebody is overweight or obese, they are at increased risk of certain diseases such as strokes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. The first step in weight loss is lifestyle changes which include exercise and a healthy diet. However, if the weight loss does not happen with lifestyle changes, dietary supplements, prescription medications, and surgical options are the next step.

Why do I need to lose weight?

Obesity can result in several complications. It can lead to heart disease and stroke and increase your blood pressure and blood sugar, which will ultimately develop into diabetes. Certain cancers have been associated with obesity. Gallbladder issues and gold stones are also known to be more common in obese patients. Problems such as gout, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and fractures are more common in obese patients. Obesity can result in breathing problems as well as sleep apnea. Specific hormonal issues such as decrease testosterone or hypogonadism can also result from obesity.

How effective is meal supplementation therapy, and where to get it?

Meal supplementation therapy is a medically supervised treatment plan to limit caloric intake. There is extensive literature to prove that it is very effective in weight loss. There are several meal replacement plans available commercially; however, the safety and efficacy may be questionable. At District Endocrine, we provide safe and effective meal replacement plans at a reasonable cost.
